A modernized version of the Type 86 BMP was developed for the Chinese Army. The turret was replaced with a new 25 mm automatic cannon and 7.62 mm machine gun, and the vehicle was equipped with a new track equipped with a rubber-metal joint and removable asphalt shoes.
